Army dominates shooting event in National Games

Army maintained their dominance in the ongoing 34th National Games shooting events as they won three more gold medals. The Navy also bagged three gold medals in Friday's (May 19) events.

Army's Aqib Latif won the gold medal in men's 50m rifle prone. Aqib Latif also created a new national record with a score of 621.7

Navy's Muhammad Usman and Ghafran Adil won silver and bronze medals in the 50m rifle-prone individual event. Meanwhile, in the team event, the Navy won gold, Airforce won silver and Army won bronze medals.

In the women’s ten-meter individual air rifle competition, Navy's Mehek Fatima bagged gold, and Army's Kanza won silver. Meanwhile, in the women’s 10-meter team air rifle event, Army won gold, Navy won silver and HEC won bronze.

All three individual medals in the Olympic trap event were won by Army shooters with Lieutenant Colonel retired Aamir Iqbal winning Gold, and Lieutenant Colonel Farooq Nadeem winning Silver Medal.

In the Olympic trap team event, Army won gold, Navy won silver and Air Force won bronze.

A number of national records were set today as well in National Games shooting.

Aqib Latif of the Army also set a new national record in the 50m rifle prone.

Mahek Fatima of the Navy set a new national record in the 10m air rifle, and Kanza set a new national record in the final. Mahek, the qualifying record holder, is the wife of Aaqib, the 50m record holder.

Kanza Shahzad also created a national youth record in the qualifying round.

Earlier, Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) beat Army by 3-0 to defend their women's hockey event title in the 34th National Games.

On Thursday (May 18), WAPDA and Army locked horns in the grand finale. In a one-sided contest, WAPDA wrapped up a convincing victory to win the event for the second consecutive time.

In the 33rd National Games, WAPDA beat the same team to lift the title. For their title victory, WAPDA bagged Gold whereas Army managed the Silver medal.
