Indian cricketer KL Rahul spoke about the social media trolling and criticism faced by athletes and the negative effect of it on their mental health.

The wicketkeeper is not having a great time as a batter since the disappointing ICC T20 World Cup last year in Australia and has been consistently struggling with the bat for a long time.

Addressing social media trolls and how it has affected him, the 31-year-old wasn’t shy to admit that it affects athletes.

“That's something that sometimes affects me and affects a lot of the other boys as well that when we athletes truly need support, people feel they can or have the power to comment or say what they want. Just see what that person is going through,” Rahul said while speaking on The Ranveer Show

The cricketer also voiced that no athlete wants to perform poorly as everyone works hard all day, and it is just unfortunate that results don’t go our way at times.

“None of us wants to perform badly. This is our life. This is all we do. Like I said, I don’t know anything else apart from cricket,” the right-hander said.

“That's the only thing I do. Why would anyone assume that I am not serious about my game or that I am not working hard enough? And unfortunately in sports, there is no connection. Like I said you can work hard, like I work hard but the result didn't go my way," he added.

It must be noted that KL Rahul is spending time away from cricket after a successful thigh surgery which has ruled him out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) season 16 and the upcoming World Test Championship (WTC) final against Australia from June 7.

The Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) skipper played his last IPL match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 1. He was ruled out for the rest of the tournament after hurting his hip flexor while chasing a ball in the outfield.
