Pakistan's opening batter Ahmad Shahzad wants Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) to treat him with fair chances just like they do with other players in the circuit.

Speaking in Geo News' program Score, Shahzad, who has played 13 Tests, 81 ODIs, and 59 T20Is, said he is there to represent Pakistan once again.

"Pakistan cricket team's race is for everyone. Whoever performs well, will get a chance to play. As simple as that," said Ahmed when he was asked about too many openers in contention for the national team's spot, especially in the shorter format.

"It depends on the performance of every single cricketer. I am all in for giving chances to youngsters. I am really impressed by Saim Ayub and I want him to play for Pakistan. But, sometimes you need experienced players to groom these youngsters," he added.

Shahzad said there is no doubt about his fitness. "I am," replied Shahzad to a query about his availability for all three formats of the game. "I don't want special treatment. I just want honest treatment with me like other players," he concluded.

The right-handed opening batter has represented Pakistan for a long time. He was the first Pakistani cricketer to score a century in all three formats.

The cricketer last played his international match under the captaincy of Sarfaraz Ahmed in 2019. Ehsan Mani-led PCB set-up brought Misbah-ul-Haq as head coach of Pakistan team.

In his first series as head coach, Misbah called back discarded cricketers Shahzad and Umar Akmal in T20I squad against Sri Lanka. Pakistan lost three-match T20I series 3-0.
