Brazil goalkeeper Ederson has said that he and his teammates had discussed the "big possibility" of Carlo Ancelotti, who is currently working with Real Madrid, becoming the head coach of the national side.

He added that uncertainty over who will become Brazil's next coach has caused anxiety among the squad.

Tite had stepped down after Brazil were knocked out of the World Cup quarter-finals in Qatar.

However, in February Brazil's federation rejected reports that had reached a verbal agreement with Ancelotti, who has a contract with Madrid until 2024.

"There is a big possibility that he comes," Ederson told reporters ahead of Brazil's game against Morocco on March 25.

The Manchester City keeper has also spoken to Casemiro, Vinicius Jr and Eder Militao, who all have the experience of playing under Ancelotti.

"What I've been told about him is that he's an exceptional coach, that everyone in the group likes, he's a guy who has a very successful career, just look at his CV. We will see in the near future if he will be here or not,” he said.

"I hope we can have a new coach quickly. I feel the anticipation too because there's too much speculation. Is it a Brazilian or a foreign coach? We are also living in a phase of anxiety,” he added.

Earlier, Ederson also heaped praise on striker Erling Haaland who has been in great goal-scoring form since joining City.

“Haaland has been showing what he’s all about since [his time at] Borussia [Dortmund] – he had great seasons there, so it’s not news for us,” the keeper said.

“Of course, when he arrived, we said he was going to score a lot – and that’s been happening.

“He is a brilliant goalscorer, he always looks to score and help the team. He is the striker we needed.

“Haaland plays more centrally, looking to get into the box, he is a target in the area. That has been the major difference. Sometimes you get into the final third and you have someone who will always be in the area.

“Many people say most of the goals he scores are easy – but that is a lie. It’s his positioning – he positions himself very well. That’s his best ability.

“So, he doesn’t score easy goals, he positions himself well. I hope he continues to score many goals, making us happy and we’ll keep working together for all the titles.”
