Former Test cricketer Ijaz Ahmed is all but certain to be appointed the new head coach of the Pakistan Under-19 cricket team, Daily Jang reported on Friday.
According to sources quoted by the Urdu daily, Ijaz is the frontrunner for the position for which spin legend Saqlain Mushtaq and former Pakistan wicketkeeper Atiq-uz-Zaman are also contenders. However, a decision to install Ijaz has been made, as per Jang.
The team’s training camp for the upcoming ACC U-19 Asia Cup got under way at the Hanif Mohammad High Performance Centre in Karachi today.
Sources told Jang that Ijaz’s appointment will come into effect after the tournament. Until then, the team will continue to be trained by Azam Khan.
