Pakistan’s hopes of bringing Test cricket to Pakistan were dealt a massive blow on Thursday when reports emerged that Sri Lanka have declined the invitation to send its team for a two-match series.

Following a Sri Lankan security delegation’s visit to Pakistan, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) was confident that it had done all to convince the islanders to send their team.

However, BBC reporter Azzam Ameen has quoted Sri Lankan Sports Minister Harin Fernando as saying that “Sri Lanka will not play Test Cricket in Pakistan; we are planning to play 3 ODIs in Pakistan [instead].”

The development, if true, will disappoint the fans of the five-day format in Pakistan who have been deprived of true Test cricket since the 2009 terrorist attack on Sri Lanka in Lahore.
