Brazil forward Gabriel Martinelli has signed a new long-term contract with Arsenal, keeping him at the club until at least 2017.

The 21-year-old made 111 appearances across all competitions since joining from Brazilian team Ituano in the summer of 2019.

This season, he has been a constant in the Premier League, scoring seven goals to help the Gunners move five points clear atop the league standings.

"The journey continues. I'm so proud to have signed another contract with The Arsenal family," Gabi wrote on Twitter.

"From the moment I joined the staff, my teammates and the supporters have made me feel at home. I’m excited for what the future holds at this special club," he said.

"Gabi is still very young, so we know there's still much more to come from him," said manager Mikel Arteta. "Our supporters see his quality and energy every single time he puts on the shirt, and he's the same every day in training, with his hard work and positive values.

"We're now excited to continue to develop his huge talent and look forward to seeing him perform with Arsenal in the years to come."

Before earning his senior debut in March 2022, Martinelli played in eight games for Brazil's Under-23 team.

He travelled to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022 with the Brazil team and made two appearances as the Selecao advanced to the quarter-finals.

Gabi started his career at the Sao Paulo club Ituano, where he made his debut at the age of 16 and scored his first goal in September 2018.

Before joining Arsenal in July 2019, he was named Campeonato Paulista Young Player of the Year.
