Lahore Qalandars captain Shaheen Afridi believes that every player in the team should be treated equally regardless of seniority.

The left-arm speedster will lead the defending champions in the upcoming eight edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

“As a captain, I don’t only think about those in the field but also for those who are sitting on the bench. You have to carry each and every player in the team and treat everyone equally and as a match winner, regardless of his seniority,” the lanky pacer said in the latest edition of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Podcast.

“The most important aspect of leadership is handling pressure. I need to handle pressure and be good with my decision-making, because if I let the pressure get better of me, my team would crumble. It is also important to lead from the front and outperform myself every time I take the field as it will motivate my players to do well,” he added.

The 22-year-old has been out of action after suffering a knee injury during the T20 World Cup 2022 final against England on November 13 but will be making a comeback in the PSL 8.

Among players who made their PSL debuts in 2018, Shaheen has the most wickets (70). He is also third on the list of the highest wicket-takers in the tournament history behind Wahab Riaz (103) and Hasan Ali (81), who have played 27 and 14 more matches than him respectively.

The opening ceremony of PSL 8 will be held in Multan on February 13 prior to the tournament opener between 2021 winners Multan Sultans and defending champions Lahore Qalandars; meanwhile the closing ceremony and final will be played on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.
