Tottenham Hotspur revealed that manager Antonio Conte will undergo surgery on Wednesday to have his gallbladder removed.

After being "unwell with severe abdominal pain," the Italian coach was diagnosed with cholecystitis, which is an inflammation of the gallbladder.

Conte will make a comeback "following a period of recuperation".

"Everyone at the Club wishes him well," the club said.

With 36 points, Conte's side is now ranked fifth in the Premier League, 14 points behind league-leading and rival Arsenal from north London.

The club may potentially suffer a significant setback without the 53-year-old.

Conte oversaw Tottenham's 3-0 FA Cup victory over Preston on Saturday, but, he won't be present when Manchester City visits Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on Sunday.

It should be mentioned here that Gallbladder removal operation, known as a cholecystectomy, is typically performed following the development of gallstones in the bile-storing organ.
