Pakistan’s skipper Babar Azam and star pacer Shaheen Afridi faced off ahead of the eight edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

A video of the duo’s training in the nets, at the National High Peformance Centre, was shared by the Lahore Qalandars on Saturday.

It must be noted that Afridi will lead defending champions Qalandars during PSL 8, meanwhile Azam will be in charge of Peshawar Zalmi.

In one of the biggest trades of the tournament, Zalmi roped in Azam in the Platinum category and the first pick in the supplementary round for Haider Ali and Shoaib Malik who move to Karachi Kings in Platinum and Diamond categories, respectively, before the trade and retention window closed.

The prolific right-hander is the all-time highest scorer of PSL, with 2413 runs under his belt in 68 matches.

It must be noted that the opening ceremony of PSL 8 will be held in Multan on February 13 prior to the tournament opener between 2021 winners Multan Sultans and Qalandars. Whereas the closing ceremony and final will take place on March 19 in Lahore, which will also host play-offs.

Qalandars will attempt to become the first side to win back-to-back titles; meanwhile Islamabad United will aim to become the most successful side by lifting the trophy thrice.

Karachi Kings, Qalandars, Sultans and United will play five home matches each — one against each side.

Rawalpindi will stage 11 fixtures, Karachi and Lahore will host nine matches each, whereas Multan will have five home games.

Rawalpindi will host the only double-header on March 7 when Peshawar Zalmi will play Qalandars and United will take on Sultans.
