Real Madrid winger Marco Asensio has communicated that he wants more money after being offered a new contract by the European giants.

According to Marca, Real Madrid and Asensio are presently negotiating a new contract. However, the 27-year-old is looking for both more money than is being offered and a more important position on the club.

However, both the player and the club have agreed upon the duration of the contract.

The Spaniard's current deal expires in June, which has raised speculation of a summer departure as a free agent.

Barcelona, the bitter rivals of Real Madrid, have been mentioned as potential suitors for the winger due to their association with Jorge Mendes, who represents him.

Asensio had contract discussions with the club in the summer, but they did not go well because of the wage gap between what was expected and what was offered.

But Asensio declared last week that he is still committed to staying at the Santiago Bernabeu.

"Things are being discussed, we’ll see where it goes. I’m focused on myself and the next game. Hopefully, everything will come to fruition.

"I want to renew and stay at Madrid for a long time, but it’s not something that depends only on me. For me, the most important thing is sporting matters and being happy."
