Australia batsman Steve Smith was hit by a nasty bouncer from England's Jofra Archer on day 4 of the second Ashes Test on Saturday.

The supremely in-form batter was being his usual dogged self when he took his eyes off of a sharply rising Archer delivery.

Smith turned his head and ended up copping the ball on his neck apparently. Although it didn't seem the ball hit him on the head, the incident still rendered Smith unable to continue.

He had amassed 80 runs off of 152 balls and was on his way to another ton, which would have been his third in as many innings in the series.

The super human batsman that he is, Smith walked off the field himself — a testament to his toughness. The Lord's crowd couldn't help but give him a standing ovation.

It is worth mentioning that the late Phil Hughes was hit on the head under similar circumstances in 2014.
