The chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board's (PCB) Management Committee, Najam Sethi, announced on Friday that the board will hold three women's exhibition matches during the eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL).

The development came during the unveiling of the schedule of PSL 8 by Sethi.

The PCB will hold three women's matches as a build-up to the Women's League, which the management committee decided to separate from the PSL.

"During the PSL 8, there will be three women's matches, which will be a trial run for the main Women's League. We are planning to launch it in September this year. Top women cricketers will also be part of the three matches. So, it will be quite an interesting and developing situation as the PSL progresses," Sethi said.

Earlier, the sources told Geo News that the PCB decided to separate the Women's League from the PSL.

The PCB has allocated the window of September this year for the first Women's Super League, which will be held as a separate event from the PSL.

The women's league will have five franchise teams, and there will be separate bidding for franchise rights.

The PCB has already received expressions of interest from women cricketers from around the world to participate.

It should be noted that earlier, under the leadership of former chairman Ramiz Raja, the PCB had intended to hold the women's league alongside the eighth edition of the PSL.

The national cricket governing body plans to keep international women's organisations associated with the United Nations, including the Malala Foundation, on board for the women's league so that the positive image of Pakistan can be highlighted through the tournament.

It should be mentioned here that the opening ceremony of the PSL will be held in Multan on 13 February prior to the tournament opener between 2021 winners Multan Sultans and defending champions Lahore Qalandars.

10 Mar - Pakistan Women's League Exhibition Match 2, Pindi Cricket Stadium
