FC Barcelona are closing in on signing Manchester City's Ilkay Gundogan as the midfielder will reportedly join the Spanish side in June 2023.

The German international's contract with Manchester City is set to expire at the end of the season.

Recent reports from Spain on Thursday suggested that Gundogan's interest in signing for La Liga powerhouse Barcelona on a free transfer at the end of the season has resulted in a favourable outcome for the Camp Nou team.

Just this week, it was reported in England that Barcelona had a serious interest in signing Gundogan.

According to El Chiringuito, FC Barcelona has "closed" the signing of Ilkay Gundogan from Manchester City for the summer of 2023.

According to reports, the former Borussia Dortmund player, who was among Pep Guardiola's first City signings, has been wanting to move to Spain for "family reasons" and feels that his time at the Etihad Stadium is up.

With Ferran Torres joining Xavi's initiative last year in a £48 million transfer and Eric Garcia moving to Catalonia a year earlier, Gundogan would become the most recent player to make the transition from the Etihad Stadium to Catalonia.

The La Liga side have shown interest in Bernardo Silva on numerous occasions, with the most recent summer transfer window possibly marking the closest that the Portugal international has come to join the team.
