Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has ordered national team manager to submit a report on the reasons behind embarrassing loss in third and last ODI of the series against India on January 15.
India beat Sri Lanka by 317 runs (record in terms of runs margin). Virat Kohli scored magnificent 166 runs to play an important role in India's record-breaking victory at home.
Following the defeat, SLC decided to inquire about this heavy loss within five days. The manager has been asked to include the views of captain, head coach, and the selection panel.
"The report will enable Sri Lanka Cricket to review and understand the background to the team’s dismal performances during the final ODI, which it lost by 317 runs after being bowled out in 22 overs," SLC wrote in a letter issued to team's manager.
After deciding to bat first, Indian openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill provided a strong 95-run stand. Rohit scored 42 before getting out to Chamika Karunaratne.
Gill then partnered with Kohli for 131-run partnership. The two batters scored a century each to keep Indian on top of the game.
India posted a mammoth 390-5 on the scoreboard. In reply, Sri Lanka were bowled out for 73 runs. Nuwanidu Fernando scored highest 19 runs from the visitors.
After this victory, India won the three-match series 3-0. Earlier, they defeated Sri Lanka 2-1 in three-match T20I series.
