Pakistan's fast bowler Naseem Shah created history during the opening ODI against New Zealand at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on Monday.

Naseem was sensational with the ball as he secured a five-wicket haul against the Kiwis.

With the five wickets, he became the bowler to take the most wickets in the first four ODIs of his career.

The right-arm pacer, who made his ODI debut against the Netherlands on 16 August 2022, bagged 15 wickets in four 50-over games so far.

It is worth mentioning here that it is the pacer's second consecutive fifer in ODIs as he claimed five wickets during the third match against the Netherlands in Rotterdam on 21 August, 2022.

Meanwhile, Australia's Ryan Harris and Gary Gilmour took 14 wickets each in their respective first four matches in ODI cricket.

Pakistan's Usman Shinwari also took 12 scalps in the first four matches in the format.

It is worth mentioning here that Naseem's exploits with the ball helped Pakistan restrict the Black Caps to a target of 255 runs in 50 overs.

Debutant Usama Mir claimed two wickets, while Mohammad Wasim Jr and Mohammad Nawaz took a scalp each.

For New Zealand, Tom Latham scored 42 runs, while all-rounder Michael Bracewell smashed 43 runs.

Meanwhile, Daryl Mitchell managed to gather 36 runs, and Glenn Phillips scored 37 runs.

Pakistan have a chance to become the number one ODI team in the world during the series against New Zealand.

If Pakistan whitewashes New Zealand 3-0 during the three-match series, they will jump to the number one spot in the rankings with 114 rating points.
