Pakistan one-day internationals vice-captain Shan Masood has said he is not satisfied with his performance after his dismal display during the Test series against England and New Zealand.

Shan was not up to his best during the three Test matches he played against the two sides as he was well exposed against spin as he was dismissed five times.

In an exclusive interview with Geo News, the left-handed batter admitted that he was not up to par but vowed to correct his mistakes in the future.

"I am not satisfied with my performance in the Test series against England and New Zealand. Several times my choice of shot was not good. Whenever I make a mistake, I take responsibility for it. If I am named in the Test squad again, I will try to do something different, but I will not change my style of playing. I will try to correct minor mistakes immediately," Shan said.

Shan managed to score 122 runs in six innings.

The batter was named vice-captain of Pakistan's ODI team for the New Zealand series. He last played an ODI against Australia back in 2019 and will be returning to white-ball cricket after almost four years.

"The responsibility of vice-captain is very important in the team. If I do not fit in the list of the best available players, then I will not be in the playing eleven," he said.

"I am a professional player and I have never complained about any role. I have adjusted my position in T20 and Test cricket. This is all part of the game. The effort is whenever there is an opportunity, I try to give good results for the team," he added.

'Champion captain'

Shan also heaped massive praise on former Pakistan skipper Sarfaraz Ahmed, who made his return to the national side after almost four years.

"The example of Sarfraz Ahmed is in front of everyone. He was a champion captain. Firstly, he was removed from the playing XI, and then he was out of the team, but he did not lose heart and continued to work hard," he said.

Moreover, Shan, who replaced Shadab Khan as Babar Azam's deputy for the series against the Black Caps, stated that he takes every decision of the team positively.

"Shadab is the vice-captain of the team, and he is the idol player of the team in all three formats," he said. "I have returned to the ODI squad after four years. I have no complaints that I didn't play ODI cricket for four years."

The three-match ODI series between Pakistan and New Zealand will be played at the National Bank Cricket Arena in Karachi on 9, 11, and 13 January.
