Left-handed opener Sharjeel Khan has failed to score big in his first Bangladesh Premier League (BPL) match this year.

Sharjeel left for Bangladesh to participate in the league right after he failed to appear in Pakistan's ODI squad for home New Zealand series due to non-clearance from Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB).

While representing Khulna Tigers against Dhaka Dominators, Sharjeel managed to score just seven runs off 11 balls, which included a boundary, and was dismissed by Nasir Hossain. The opening batter will play only two more matches in the league.

Sharjeel was expecting a return to Pakistan’s white-ball squad after five years. But, the interim chief selector Shahid Khan Afridi revealed that they didn't get a green signal for his selection from high-ups.

"Sharjeel Khan was included in the probable players list seeing his performance in domestic but was not retained in final squad as I did not get green signal from PCB chairman on his inclusion in the team," Afridi said in a press conference after announcing ODI squad against New Zealand.

Pakistan will play three ODIs against New Zealand on January 9, 11, and 13 in Karachi.
