Conway celebrates century in second Test - PCB

KARACHI: Devon Conway stood firm after his opening partner Tom Latham departed after lunch on day 1 of the second Test against Pakistan.

The left-handed batter completed his fourth Test century, putting New Zealand in the driving seat.

After a glittering 134-runs opening partnership, New Zealand lost Tom Latham for 71 runs. Latham, who scored a century in previous match, pulled off a convincing run in first innings.

Conway stood firm to help New Zealand go for tea at 226-1 in 58 overs. Conway remained not out for 120 off 179 balls. Kane Williamson took charge on the other end and handled Pakistan bowlers cleverly. He was not out for 29 runs at tea.

Naseem Shah provided first breakthrough to Pakistan as he bowled fuller length delivery to remove Latham.

Resuming at 119-0 after lunch, New Zealand added 107 runs at a run-rate of 3.89.

New Zealand openers Latham and Conway looked comfortable on an expected bouncy pitch as they scored fifties to walk off at lunch on the opening day.

A lot of bounce and movement was expected on a green-looking wicket but it turned out be a real ease for batters.

Mir Hamza's dismissal was overturned after the ball was missing the stumps at height which forced Pakistan to finish first session wicketless. Latham and Conway partnered strongly to score 119 for naught in 30 overs.
