Liverpool have won the race against Manchester United to sign forward Cody Gakpo after agreeing to a deal with PSV.
Gakpo starred for the Netherlands during the FIFA World Cup 2022 as he struck a hat-trick to help his side advance to the quarter-finals.
The winger has been signed for a reported fee of of €40 to €50 million
PSV confirmed the agreement between them and Liverpool in a statement.
"PSV and Liverpool FC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo. The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer," the Dutch club said.
With attackers Diogo Jota and Luis Diaz expected to miss significant time, Liverpool made the move to sign the forward.
Liverpool accelerated efforts to strengthen their forward line by pushing for Gakpo as Colombian international Diaz faces a prolonged stint on the sidelines after aggravating a knee injury during a mid-season training vacation in Dubai.
