Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday approved the appointment of Najam Sethi as the new chairman of the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), Geo News reported, citing sources.

Sources privy to the matter said that a notification for the appointment of Najam Sethi will be issued shortly

As many as four notifications will be issued shortly. According to these notifications, PCB's 2019 constitution will be dissolved and 2014 constitution will come into effect. A new set-up will also be announced to run the board's affairs.

Meanwhile, a temporary selection committee, comprised of four renowned cricketers, will be appointed to select Pakistan's squad for the upcoming home Test series against New Zealand.

Najam will overthrow former cricketer Ramiz Raja who was appointed as PCB chairman by ex-PM Imran Khan in September 2021. After Ehsan Mani refused to continue as the PCB boss, Khan brought his former teammate Raja into charge.

During the last year and so, Pakistan played semi-final of ICC T20 World Cup 2021, final of Asia Cup 2022, and final of ICC T20 World Cup 2022. During this time period, green shirts also won tri-nation series in New Zealand.

But, Pakistan's performance in Tests deteriorated as they were whitewashed at home for the first time in history. They also lost the Test series 1-0 against Australia.
