Google CEO Sundar Pichai has revealed that the search engine recorded its highest-ever traffic in 25 years during the FIFA World Cup 2022 final at the Lusail Stadium on Sunday.

The duel of the giants between France and Argentina at the FIFA World Cup 2022 was the highlight of the football calendar. 

At the Lusail stadium in Qatar, around 100,000 spectators watched the game, while millions tuned in to their televisions and gadgets to watch the high-octane clash.

Pichai announced the stunning development regarding the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022 final on his official Twitter account on Monday.

"Search recorded its highest ever traffic in 25 years during the final of #FIFAWorldCup, it was like the entire world was searching about one thing," Pichai wrote.

The mega final saw Argentina beat defending champions France by 4-2 on penalties after a thrilling 3-3 draw.

Lionel Messi's penalty goal for Argentina in the 23rd minute gave Argentina an early advantage. With a goal from Angel Di Maria in the 36th minute, Argentina doubled their advantage and maintained that until the 80th minute.

However, Kylian Mbappe converted a penalty kick to score France's first goal in the 80th minute, and then he added another beautiful goal just one minute later.

Messi scored his second goal of the game as it entered the extra time in the 108th minute, however Mbappe once more equalised in the 118th with a penalty.

After extra time, the superb match ended in a 3-3 draw, forcing a penalty shootout to determine the champion.

Argentina prevailed in the penalty shootout by a score of 4-2 to win the FIFA World Cup for the third time in their history.
