Pakistan's current head coach and former Test cricketer Saqlain Mushtaq highly rated Azhar Ali's character apart from his cricket skills.

After Azhar announced his international cricket retirement in an emotional press conference on Friday, the cricketer was given a tribute by fellow players in the dressing room.

During the occasion, Saqlain lauded Azhar's attitude towards his fellow players and his graceful character on and off the field.

"I have never seen a person like Azhar in my entire life," said Saqlain. "I have seen many juniors sharing a close bond with him in no time. His soul and heart are so pure. He has a clean character and career which players dream of," he added.

Former Test captain Sarfaraz Ahmed also praised the right-handed batter who had already retired from white-ball format.

"I have played under your captaincy. I don't have words to describe this moment. You have served Pakistan with your hundred percent and I wish you the best of luck for your future," he said.

Skipper Babar Azam credited Azhar for teaching him so much. "When I came to the team, you were my senior. I got to learn so much from you. Even, you helped me a lot in my tough time recently," the captain shared.

"I wish you the best of luck and my prayers are with you," Babar concluded.
