Neymar has tied the record for most goals scored by a Brazilian after scoring his 77th goal during the FIFA World Cup 2022 quarter-final clash against Croatia at the Education City Stadium on Friday.

The 30-year-old has now equaled Pele's record and needs just one more goal to become Brazil's top-scorer of all time.

Since Pele played his final game for Brazil in 1971, no player has been able to come closer to matching his record.

Neymar equaled Pele's goal total despite legendary players like Ronaldo (62 goals), Romario (55), Zico (48), Bebeto (40), and Rivaldo (35) all attempting to do so.

Neymar made his comeback in the round of 16 as Brazil crushed South Korea 4-1 after missing two games in the group stages due to injury.

When Neymar scored in his senior debut for Brazil against the United States in August 2010, he began his run to 77 goals in international competitions. Since that match, the former Barcelona star has scored frequently, including three straight FIFA World Cup.

Despite the fact that he will only be 34 by the time the 2026 World Cup in America, Mexico, and Canada arrives, the PSG forward has predicted that this would likely be his final FIFA World Cup.

Pele has stated that he is doing well while recovering from colon cancer in a Brazilian hospital and that he is looking forward to seeing Brazil play at the 2022 World Cup.
