Mystery spinner Abrar Ahmed bagged a five-wicket haul as England slipped to 180-5 at lunch on day one of the second Test against Pakistan in Multan.
Abrar, who is making his debut, claimed all the wickets in the morning session by registering figures of 5-70 in 13 overs.
The 24-year-old became the 13th Pakistan cricketer to bag a five-wicket haul on Test debut.
Ollie Pope and Ben Duckett notched up fifties, but neither were able to push on as Abrar made life difficult for the England top-order.
Abrar is also the first bowler in Pakistan's Test history to take five wickets in the first session on Test debut. The only other Pakistan bowler to take five wickets on his first day in Test cricket is Wahab Riaz, who did it against England at The Oval in 2010.
Earlier, England skipper Ben Stokes called correctly at the toss on Friday as his side asked Pakistan to bowl first.
Pakistan are 1-0 down in the three-match series after losing the first Test in Rawalpindi.
It must be noted that England took full advantage of winning the toss — and their batting depth — to win the first Test by 74 runs Monday on a dead wicket that offered nothing to the bowlers.
Rawalpindi yielded 1,768 runs in four innings — the third most in Test history — with seven individual centuries and five fifties.
England are on their first Test tour of Pakistan since 2005, having declined to visit in the interim years on security grounds.
The third and final Test of the series is in Karachi from December 17-21.
