England beat Senegal by 3-0 to set up a clash with defending champions France in the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup 2022 at the Al Bayt Stadium on Monday.

Skipper Jordan Henderson, Harry Kane, and Bukayo Saka scored to help the 2018 semi-finalist beat the African champions.

Senegal had a chance in the 22nd minute as Harry Maguire lost possession, which was received and crossed in by Diatta.

However, the ball fell right in front of Ismaila Sarr, who lobbed it above the post.

After a sensational build-up, Boulaye Dia missed a great opportunity to put his team in front as Jordan Pickford made a brilliant save.

England took the lead in the 39th minute via skipper Jordan Henderson, who placed a low-driven ball by Jude Bellingham.

At the end of added time, Harry Kane scored his first goal of the FIFA World Cup 2022 to extend the Three Lions' lead to 2-0.

Bellingham was involved in the second goal as well, as he snatched the ball from close to his box rushed to the centre, and passed to Phil Foden, who served the ball on a plate to Kane, who made no mistake with a smashed but controlled finish.

With 11 goals in major tournaments, Kane has now surpassed Gary Lineker as England's all-time leading scorer in those events.

In the 58th minute, Bukayo Saka added one more to the score line. Foden beat a tackle on the left and plays in the perfect low ball for Saka to chip a delicious finish over Edouard Mendy.

The 12 goals that England has scored so far in Qatar match their best World Cup total from Russia 2018, when they advanced to the semifinals. In winning the world championship in 1966, they scored 11.

England will take on France in the quarter-final of the FIFA World Cup on December 10.

England will return to the Al Khor on Saturday to face Kylian Mbappe and co, hoping to advance to the semi-finals of a major event for the third time in a row.

Only one of their last eight encounters with France has ended in victory for the Euro 2020 runners-up.
