Hard-hitting middle-order batter Azam Khan is eager to make a comeback in the Pakistan team.

Azam made his T20 debut for Pakistan in July 2021 against England in Nottingham. However, he was dropped from the side after just six runs in three matches.

“I’m satisfied with my performance after playing in leagues around the world,” Azam said during a press conference on Saturday.

“I’m always eager to play for the national team and it is now up to the selectors to select me. I will try to perform well if I’m selected to play for Pakistan,” he added.

The right-hander has scored 174 runs in the ongoing T10 League at a strike-rate of 165.71, so far, while playing for New York Strikers.

“You can’t afford dot balls in T10 cricket which is why I try to focus on every delivery and ensure that I can score as many runs as possible,” he said.

The Karachi-born has played 86 T20s, which includes matches for various leagues around the world, and has scored 1706 runs at a strike-rate of 141.45.

Azam also lauded his father Moin Khan, who was also a former wicketkeeper-batter for Pakistan.

“My father [Moin Khan] is my biggest mentor and I have learned a lot from him. He guides me whenever we watch matches together, which has helped me improve my batting,” he said.

Recently, Azam lit up the T10 League as he smashed a blistering 47 runs to help New York Strikers beat Morrisville Samp Army.

In one of the best knocks of the tournament, Azam scored 47 runs off 20 balls, including three boundaries and five maximums.

For his sensational performance, Azam was declared the Power Hitter of the Match.

Azam’s New York Strikers, who finished at the top of the table with six wins in seven matches, will face Samp Army in the Qualifier 1 of T20 League, today.
