England batters displayed record-breaking performance against Pakistan on day 1 of the opening Test in Rawalpindi.

Aggressive English openers Zak Crawley and Ben Duckett provided a quick-fire start followed by other batters carrying on the same momentum into the day.

England scored 506-4 at stumps on day 1 to set a new world record in Test format. The English team broke 112 years old record of most runs (494) scored on the opening day of a Test match. The record was set by Australia against South Africa in 1910.

Moreover, England also set a record of most number of centuries (4) on day 1 of a Test. England's openers Crawley and Duckett alongside Ollie Pope and Harry Brook scored a century each to put Pakistan on the back foot.

Helpless Pakistani bowlers suffered to bowl on a flat track of Pindi Cricket Stadium. Zahid Mahmood took two wickets while debutants Mohammad Ali and Haris Rauf shared a wicket apiece.

'Absolute Road'

Former England captain Nasser Hussain, while commentating during the opening hour of the first day, called the pitch 'absolute road'.

"It looks like an absolute road," Nasser Hussain said during his commentary stint during the first session.

Hussain's fellow commentator Michael Atherton also echoed similar thoughts by calling the pitch 'very flat'.
