KARACHI: Leg-spinner Usman Qadir has been signed by Sydney Thunder for the upcoming edition of the Big Bash League (BBL)

Usman, son of legendary leg-spinner late Abdul Qadir, will return to Australia's franchise league after four years.

The right-arm leggie last represented Perth Scorchers and took six wickets in seven matches for his ex-franchise.

With experience of playing 23 T20Is, Usman adds much experience to the Thunder's squad who will be missing Tanveer Sangha due to injury.

In T20 World Cup 2022, Usman was among the reserved players of Pakistan's squad. He suffered a thumb injury before the mega event.

BBL's 2022-23 will be played from December 13, 2022 to February 4, 2023.

Thunder's head Andrew Gilchrist: "Usman joins us with plenty of experience, having represented Pakistan and playing in T20 leagues around the world,

"Importantly, he has first-hand knowledge of Australian conditions. He played for Western Australia and South Australia’s Futures League, so he knows what to expect,

"He’s also made it clear that he is proud his father re-invented the googly; I have read that he feels as though he’s its ‘custodian’. I hope he drives our opponents mad with his googly and other tricks this summer – it will provide extra sting to our attack."
