KARACHI: Pakistan are one of the teams which have their eyes set on playing the final of the ongoing World Test Championship.

Pakistan are currently in fifth place on the table but they do have the advantage of playing all their remaining five Test matches on home soil.

If Pakistan win all those remaining matches, they will improve their percentage to 69.05, which could prove enough to qualify for a first World Test Championship final.

However, if Babar Azam's side drop points during these matches, it will make things difficult for them with regards to finishing inside the top two places on the standings.

Pakistan opener Imam-ul-Haq also expressed his desire to play the final of the World Test Championship, while talking to Geo News in an exclusive interview last week.

“Due to the World Test Championship, the series against England and New Zealand is important for us,” he said. “We can stay in race for the final by winning three or four matches during the upcoming series.”

It must be noted that the current cycle runs from July 2021 to June 2023 and comprises the top nine Test teams, all of whom will play six series each. The top two teams will compete in the final, which will be hosted by The Oval in June, 2023.

Pakistan’s next international assignment is the three-match Test series against England on home soil.

After the first match in Rawalpindi, which begins on December 1, the second Test moves to Multan starting on Friday, December 9, and the final Test of the tour will take place at the National Stadium in Karachi, commencing on Saturday, December 17.

After the England Tests, Pakistan will face New Zealand in a two-match series between December 27 and January 8.
