LAHORE: Experienced Fawad Alam and Asif Mehmood partnered strongly for Sindh as they recovered from 151-7 to 230-7 against Northern on day 1 of the Quaid-e-Azam Trophy 2022-23 final.
After being reduced to 151-7, Sindh got the support of Fawad, who was dropped from National Test squad, and Asif who both stood firm to play for two sessions. Fawad remained not out for 38 while Asif made 56 not-out as they both put up match-saving 79 runs together.
In the title decider, Northern won the toss and decided to field first. Sindh's openers Khurram Manzoor and Saim Ayub scored 44 runs together before Mohammad Musa removed them in quick successions.
Khurram managed to score 16 whereas in-form Saim scored 29. Saad Khan (35) and Umair bin Yousuf (36) raced Sindh's score for a while Aamir Jamal and Mubasir Khan removed them to once again put Northern in the driving seat.
Until Fawad and Asif partnered, Sindh were struggling to make their mark after qualifying in the final for the first time.
Under control, Northern looked nervous once Fawad and Asif took control of the situation.
Musa and Mubasir took two wickets while Aamir and Kashif Ali bagged a wicket each.
