Rouzbeh Cheshmi and Ramin Rezaeian scored late to hand Iran their first win in mega event

DOHA: Rouzbeh Cheshmi opened Iran's account in extra time as they beat Wales 2-0 in an exciting finish to the group B game of FIFA World Cup 2022 here on Friday. 

Nobody would have thought about back-to-back strikes by Iran that too in injury time. But, they did it right on the money to seal a convincing first victory in the mega event. 

In search of their first victory in the tournament, both Iran and Wales gave tough time to each other. 

Despite of some counter-attacks, both teams failed to score a goal until injury time. 

In the eighth minute of injury time, Cheshmi scored a convincing field goal to take 1-0 lead over Wales. 

Just three minutes later, Ramin Rezaeian scored another goal for Iran amid their roaring fans in the stands. 

With winning points, Iran joined England in the second position in group B's points table.
