National Athletics Championship set to begin on November 25

It will be a three-day event in Lahore

LAHORE: The 50th National Athletics Championship will begin in Lahore on November 25.

The three-day event will feature elite local athletes, including Javelin Thrower Arshad Nadeem and sprinter Shajar Abbas, with Pakistan Army and WAPDA defending their titles in the men’s and women’s category, respectively

President of Athletics Federation of Pakistan Lt Gen (R) Akram Sahi and Director General Sports Punjab Muhammad Tariq Qureshi also held a press conference at Lahore’s National Hockey Stadium on Thursday.

“We want to make Pakistan proud in the field of athletics. Hopefully, the event will produce new talent for Pakistan,” said Sahi.

Sahi also said that the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB) can take dope tests of athletes “whenever they want” since they have “complete authority” in this regard.

14 teams will participate in the event, which will include 23 men’s and 21 women’s categories.

Schedule

November 25

Some of the main events, which includes the finals of High Jump, Shot Put, Pole Vault and 100m race in the women’s category, will take place on the opening day.

The final of Discus Throw, Triple Jump, Pole Vault and 100m race in the men’s category will also be held on the first day.

November 26

In the men’s category, the finals of Hammer Throw, 400m hurdles and Long Jump will take place on the second day of the event.

Meanwhile, Triple Jump, Hammer Throw and 1500m finals in the women’s category will also take place on day two.

November 27

The finals of men’s Marathon, 10,000m, Long Jump and Javelin throw will take place on the final day.

On the other hand, finals of women’s 200m and Long Jump will also be part of the activities on the third day.
