MANCHESTER: Portugal's star footballer Cristiano Ronaldo parted ways with Manchester United by a mutual agreement between both parties.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the football club confirmed that Ronaldo has left the club with immediate effect.

"Cristiano Ronaldo is to leave Manchester United by mutual agreement, with immediate effect," the statement read.

"The club thanks him for his immense contribution across two spells at Old Trafford, scoring 145 goals in 346 appearances, and wishes him and his family well for the future," it added.

Ronaldo left Juventus last year to rejoin the club where he came unknown in 2003. Manchester United and the star footballer didn't have good relations for the past few months due to on and off the field issues.

Before today's official announcement, reports had already claimed that he will be moving from the club soon.
