KARACHI: Manchester United forward Cristiano Ronaldo has said he will be happy if Arsenal wins the Premier League.

Speaking on TalkTv's programme Piers Morgan Uncensored, when asked if Arsenal will win the Premier League, the Portuguese forward said: "I hope so. If Manchester United doesn’t win the Premier League, I will be happy if Arsenal does."

"I like the team. I like the coach. I think they have a good team," he added.

With 37 points in 12 matches, the North London club are top of the Premier League. The defending champions Manchester City are five points behind them.

It must be noted here that Ronaldo, a Manchester United legend, stated in the same show that he felt betrayed by the club and some executives were trying to oust him.

"I don't have respect for him because he doesn´t show respect for me. Not only the coach, but another two or three guys around the club. I felt betrayed," Ronaldo said.

When quizzed again if senior club executives were trying to oust him, Ronaldo replied: "Yes, I felt betrayed and I felt like some people don't want me here, not only this year but last year too."

Meanwhile, after saying that the club will consider their response, the 13 times Premier League champions issued a statement on Friday and said they have initiated appropriate steps to the 37-year-old's claims.

Former Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger revealed in October 2020 that Cristiano was close to joining Arsenal before Sir Alex Ferguson's United outbid the them.

The Frenchman responded to the Guardian's query on his biggest transfer regrets by saying: "Oof! I would say there is not one player, there are 50. On the other hand, maybe the closest [to that] was Cristiano Ronaldo, when he signed for Man United,"

Earlier in August 2019, the forward himself admitted that that he was close to joining Arsenal.

"I met with Arsene Wenger and was about to go to Arsenal. I talked to Barcelona, Real Madrid and Inter too but after the friendly against Manchester United, who were already interested, they became even more interested and they sped up negotiations and signed me," he told TVI.
