MELBOURNE: Pakistan skipper Babar Azam failed to deliver for his side in the T20 World Cup 2022 as he was dismissed for 32 runs against England in the grand finale at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Babar didn't have a good start to the tournament as he scored just 39 runs in the Super 12 stage of the event, which caused fans and several pundits to criticise him for his dismal performance.

However, he delivered for his side during the semi-final against New Zealand at the Sydney Cricket Ground on Wednesday. The right-handed batter scored 53 runs off 42 balls in pursuit of the 152 runs set by the Kiwis to help the green shirts reach the final of the mega event.

After the decent innings against the Black Caps, the Pakistan skipper failed to deliver in the grand finale against England as he was sent back to the pavilion by Adil Rashid after scoring 32 runs off 28 balls.

As the 28-year-old's World Cup campaign finished after getting dismissed, he amassed 124 runs at an average of 17.71 and strike-rate of 93.23 in seven innings.

It must be noted here that Babar is ranked fourth in the ICC's T20I batting rankings.

The final was expected to be ruined by rain, but the chance of showers reduced from 95 to 46 per cent prior to the high-voltage clash.

According to the ICC rules, at least 10 overs per side is required to constitute a game, compared to five during the group stages. There is also a reserve day (Monday) for the final, which means if rain interrupts play on Sunday (today), it will resume on Monday from where it was halted.
