Ireland beat Pakistan in first women’s T20I

The visitors won by six wickets

KARACHI: Ireland have defeated Pakistan by six wickets during the first women’s T20I of the series in Lahore on Saturday.

Chasing a target of 136 runs, the visitors reached home in 18.4 overs for the loss of four wickets.

Irish opener Gaby Lewis struck an unbeaten fifty, 69 runs in 54 balls, to guide her side to victory. The right-hander’s knock included nine fours.

Orla Prendergast also chipped in with a vital contribution of 39 runs in 25 balls.

Gaby added 55 runs with Orla for the second wicket to lay the platform for victory as Pakistan struggled to take wickets at regular intervals.

Earlier, Pakistan were restricted to 135-5 in 20 overs after deciding to bat first.

Nida Dar starred with 61 runs in 43 balls, with the help of nine fours and a six.

Aliya Riaz notched up unbeaten run-a-ball 24, meanwhile captain Bismah Maroof scored 17 runs in 15 balls.

Orla Prendergast bagged impressive figures of 3-10 in four overs, which included wickets of Pakistan’s top-order in the shape of Muneeba Ali, Javeria Khan and Bismah.

For her all-round performance, Orla also bagged the player of the match award.

The second and third T20I will be played on 14 and 16 November at the same venue.

It must be noted that, before the T20I series, Pakistan clean swept the ODI series 3-0.
