KARACHI: Despite not being a part of the promotion's drug-testing protocol, Conor McGregor has stated he plans to return to the UFC before the end of March.

Since breaking his leg 15 months ago following his second straight loss to Dustin Poirier, McGregor has not competed. He had planned to come back this year, but a delay in his preparation prevented that from happening. Instead, he landed a job opposite Jake Gyllenhaal in a remake of Road House.

The Irishman's absence from drug testing for more than a year and his removal from the USADA testing pool were later made public. Unless an exception is made, fighters must be ready for testing for six months before they can compete. McGregor would not be allowed to compete until at least the end of April.

But he declared that he plans to fight in the first three months of 2023 during an Instagram Live.

"I'm going to be back soon, hopefully. Early 2023, I'm aiming for," McGregor said. "Sometime in the first quarter. That will give me a good couple of months. Once I wrap this in a couple of days and get the camp going... good couple of months and get going."

Since stopping Donald Cerrone in the first 40 seconds of their welterweight matchup over three years ago, McGregor has not won a UFC contest. The Dubliner has not triumphed since 2016 when he defeated Eddie Alvarez in the second round to earn the two-weight championship.
