MELBOURNE: Indian batter Virat Kohli gave a signed shirt to Pakistan singer Asim Azhar after the high-octane clash between the two arch-rivals at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Kohli starred against Pakistan as his masterclass 83-run knock helped India reach the 160-run target.

Despite reducing India to 31/3 after the batting Powerplay, Pakistan couldn't defend the target.

Taking to Twitter, Asim shared a picture with Kohli and wrote: "I was always a fan of your cricket, but now a bigger fan of the person you are. Thank you for your time and kindness Virat Kohli Bhai."

The Men in Blue will take on the Netherlands in their next fixture on Thursday in Sydney.

Meanwhile, Pakistan will look to bounce back to winning ways when they take on Zimbabwe in Perth on Thursday.

India beat Pakistan by four wickets

Virat Kohli guided India to a four-wicket victory over Pakistan in the high-voltage clash between the two sides at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday.

Kohli and Pandya put on a sensational partnership to take India to a significant win in their opening match of the mega event.

Kohli came to the crease in the second over when Naseem Shah undid KL Rahul and things looked forlorn for India when a fired-up Haris Rauf reduced them to 31/3 after the batting Powerplay.

In front of a raucous MCG crowd, the right-handed batter kept his cool to lead the blue shirts to victory. There were 31 needed from the last two overs and Kohli hit Rauf for two massive sixes on the final two deliveries of the penultimate over to make the equation 16 on the final six balls.

Pandya fell on the first delivery of the final over, before Kohli put Mohammad Nawaz into the stands off a waist-high full toss to make it six runs required from the final three deliveries to pull off the unlikely win.

Kohli was bowled on the ensuing delivery, but given it was a free hit India scrambled three byes to leave them in the box seat with just two needed from the final two balls.

Karthik was stumped on the second last delivery to give Pakistan hope, but Ravi Ashwin came to the crease to hit the winning run from the final ball of the match to clinch a thriller for India.
