MELBOURNE: Pakistan’s top-order batter Shan Masood has been taken to the hospital for scans after being hit on the head during a practice session on Friday.

The left-hander suffered the blow due to a shot by teammate Mohammad Nawaz. Since Masood was not batting, he was not wearing a helmet when he copped the blow on his head.

"Shan Masood is being taken to hospital for scans after a ball hit him in the right-hand side of his head during Pakistan's net session in MCG," said the PCB in a statement.

Masood has featured in 25 Tests, 5 ODIs and 12 T20Is over the course of his career so far, since making his debut in 2013.

It must be noted that the Pakistan team is currently preparing for their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against arch-rivals India. The highly-anticipated clash will take place at the Melbourne Cricket Ground on Sunday, October 23.

However, the match could be affected by rain and a washout is on the cards at the moment.

Parts of Australia are facing a third straight La Nina weather event with a wetter-than-average summer expected, and downpours are forecast for Sydney and Melbourne from Friday through to next week.

According to the Bureau of Meteorology, there are 80 per cent chances of rain on Sunday.

A minimum of five overs a side is required to constitute a match.

It must be noted that there are no reserve days for group stage matches, which is why both teams will share points in case of no result.
