KARACHI: Pacer Reece Topley's inclusion in England's squad for their opening match of the T20 World Cup 2022 against Afghanistan is in doubt as he has sustained an ankle injury.

On Monday, Topley injured his ankle while practising fielding as he stepped on the boundary sponge.

"England seamer Reece Topley rolled his left ankle during a fielding drill in Brisbane on Monday afternoon before England's warm-up fixture against Pakistan at the Gabba.

"He will be assessed throughout this week ahead of England’s ICC Men’s T20 World Cup opening fixture against Afghanistan in Perth on Saturday," ECB said on Tuesday.

He travelled in a protective boot from Brisbane to Perth, but England is optimistic the injury is not catastrophic.

Tymal Mills, another left-arm speed bowler, is in Australia as a travelling reserve and might be called up if the injury proves to be significant. David Willey could potentially enter the picture if Topley is not well.
