MANCHESTER: The Football Association (FA) has charged Manchester United after their players mobbed the referee during Sunday's Premier League match against Newcastle.

Cristiano Ronaldo's goal was rejected by referee Pawson during the 0-0 draw at Old Trafford, and the United players reacted angrily.

The event was mentioned in the referee's match report.

According to the FA, United "failed to ensure its players conducted themselves in an orderly fashion".

When Pawson judged that Newcastle had not taken a free-kick, the Manchester United players encircled him. Ronaldo then sprinted forward to steal the ball from Nick Pope and tap it into an empty net while thinking defender Fabian Schar had rolled it to his teammate.

However, Pawson disallowed the goal and booked Ronaldo as a result of the team's outrage at the ruling.
