KARACHI: Netherlands have defeated Namibia by five wickets after a thrilling clash during the ongoing T20 World Cup 2022 Group A match in Geelong.

The Dutch side have significantly improved their chances of qualifying for the Super 12 Stage with two wins in two games.

Chasing a modest target of 122 runs, Netherlands reached home in 19.3 overs for the loss of five wickets.

Netherlands were cruising to victory after scoring 92 runs for the loss of one wicket in the 14th over. However, a flurry of wickets brought Namibia back in the game as the batting side slipped to 102-5 in 16.4 overs.

With the match evenly poised, all-rounder batter Bas de Leede played a mature run-a-ball unbeaten knock of 30 runs to get his side over the line.

Openers Vikramjit Singh and Max O'Dowd scored 39 and 35 runs, respectively.

Earlier, Namibia were restricted to 121-6 in 20 overs after deciding to bat first.

Jan Frylinck top-scored with 43 runs in 48 balls, meanwhile Michael van Lingen scored 20 in 19.

Bas de Leede was the pick of the bowlers for Netherlands with figures of 2-18 in three overs. The 22-year-old’s all-round performance also helped him bag the player of the match award.

It must be noted that Bas de Leede also clinched the player of the match award in Netherlands’ previous game against the United Arab Emirates (UAE).
