T20 World Cup: Scotland off to flying start by upsetting West Indies in qualifiers

HOBART: Scotland's bowlers gave a dream start to their team as they beat two-time T20 World Cup champions West Indies by 42 runs in their first qualifiers' game here on Monday. 

A dismal batting show by West Indies put them in trouble as they could only score 118 while chasing 161 runs in 20 overs. 

Josh Davey and Brad Wheal partnered to remove West Indies openers Kyle Mayers and Evin Lewis in the power play. 

The openers' below earlier didn't allow West Indies to stand again and resist in the run-chase. Brief scores after Mayers's 20 and Lewis's 14 put West Indies under pressure. 

Jason Holder single-handedly fought hard but wickets falling at the other end kept building pressure. He scored 38 runs off 33 balls including four boundaries and a six but couldn't pull it off for his team. 

Mark Watt remained pick of the bowlers for Scotland as he bagged three for 12 runs. Wheal and Michael Leask took two wickets each while Davey and Safyaan Sharif shared a wicket apiece. 

While batting first, Scotland's opener George Munsey led his team to 160-5 in 20 overs. Unbeaten Munsey scored 66 runs off 53 balls including nine boundaries. 

Calum MacLeod scored 23 runs including four boundaries and Scotland set a decent total on the scoreboard. 

Alzarri Joseph and Jason Holder bagged two wickets each while Odean Smith bagged one.
