PJL: Shawaiz Irfan scored a half-century against Gawadar Sharks

LAHORE: Bahawalpur Royals became the third team to secure a playoff position by defeating Gwadar Sharks by an impressive eight wickets in the 12th game of the Pakistan Junior League here at the Gaddafi Stadium on Friday.

The Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first, which turned out in their favour as they restricted Sharks to 119 runs before chasing down the target in only 14.2 overs.

Shawaiz Irfan and Muhammad Tayyab Arif starred with the bat as they scored 51 and 42 runs, respectively. Shawaiz's half-century included seven boundaries and two maximums, while Tayyab hit seven fours to reach 41 runs.

Opening batter Basit Ali also scored 24 runs in 26 balls.

For Sharks, Arafat Minhas claimed a wicket.

Earlier, a fiery bowling display by the Royals helped them restrict the Sharks to 119 runs in 20 overs.

Nangeyalia Kharote, Sajjad Ali, and Mohammad Zeeshan secured two scalps each, while Tayyab claimed a single scalp.

Nangeyalia was the most economical bowler as he gave away only 20 runs in four overs bowled.

Haseeb Nazim top-scored for the Sharks, amassing 26 runs in 23 balls. The Sharks couldn't build a strong partnership as the Royals' bowlers put up a great show to topple their batting order.

Danial Ibrahim scored 25 runs, while Saad Masood bagged 20 runs.
