Fast bowler Shoaib Akhtar has furiously and formally begun campaigning for him to be appointed the new chief selector of the Pakistan national cricket team.

The position is vacant after Inzamamul Haq announced last month that he will not seek an extension of his contract, which expired on July 31.

Akhtar, Inzi’s former teammate, has thrown his name in the hat by passionately explaining what he would do and how he would induct young blood, if he is given the job.

“I have not had anyone approach me to become chief selector but in case it does happen, I will be straightforward,” he said in his YouTube video.

The man nicknamed the Rawalpindi Express is known for his aggressive approach to pretty much everything he does. But he went to great lengths to claim that he his record has been clean and that Akhtar, the chief selector, would not be stepping on anyone’s toes.

“Although people deem me as aggressive, in my 15-year career I had just one fight,” he said. “[If I am given the job] I will bring on board the media, the people, the board and the world, and will try to make a statement and choose players in such a way that will benefit the players.

“But one thing is set in stone that if I do come, I will make sure to pick players that can fight and play like lions. I will also teach them how to play in all three formats.
