KARACHI: An army contingent from Pakistan left for Qatar to join the FIFA World Cup security team, earning the country's military yet another distinction.

The delegation, which consists of Pakistan Army officers, junior commissioned officers, and troops, will support the Qatari government with security during the greatest and most awaited football event to ever take place in Qatar.

The Gulf nation had asked the Pakistan Army for security during the major event. In August, a four-person delegation from the Qatari interior ministry visited Pakistan to discuss the issue.

The eight-person international training team from FIFA visited Pakistan in September and provided security training for the troops going to Qatar for the FIFA World Cup 2022.

The World Cup will kick off on November 20 when host Qatar takes on Ecuador in the opening clash of the global event.
