CHRISTCHURCH: New Zealand's all-rounder Daryl Mitchell has been ruled out of the T20I tri-series after sustaining a fracture in his right hand's finger.

New Zealand is due to take Pakistan in their first match in the T20I tri-series on Saturday.

Meanwhile, the black caps have suffered a major blow. New Zealand Cricket (NZC) confirmed that Mitchell will not be available for the tri-series due to injury.

"Daryl Mitchell sustained a blow to his right-hand while batting in the nets, with an X-Ray later revealing a fracture to his fifth metacarpal (pinkie finger)," NZC said in a statement.

Mitchell's replacement will be announced in due course. Whereas, his participation in T20 World Cup 2022 will depend on his injury recovery.

The New Zealand team's physio for the Tri-Series Theo Kapakoulakis said Mitchell's injury will keep him out of cricket action for at least two weeks.
