CHRISTCHURCH: In 2020, Mohammad Rizwan's T20I career took a surprising turn when the then-Pakistan team management promoted him as an opener on New Zealand tour.
In a three-match T20I series, Rizwan played as an opener and made a mark in the last game to cement his position in Pakistan team as a regular T20I opener.
The right-handed batter scored his maiden T20I fifty, finishing with 89 runs in last series game against New Zealand.
At that time, Rizwan's average in T20I was just 17.23 without any fifty or hundred.
Today when Rizwan returned to New Zealand in tri-series match against Bangladesh, he scored his 21st T20I half-century. His current average is 52.53 with 21 half-centuries and a hundred too.
He is also the current number-one batter in the ICC T20I rankings. Within two years, Rizwan proved himself as a regular T20I batter.
