KARACHI: Pakistan batting great Javed Miandad praised skipper Babar Azam's leadership during the ongoing seven-match T20I series against England, but he believes that the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) should inquire if his batting performance is declining due to captaincy.
"Babar is a world-class batsman. But the board should ask him if captaincy is taking a toll on him. There needs to be an honest conversation between him and the board," Miandad said, according to local media.
Before the 2019 Australia series, Babar was named captain of the national team in Twenty20 internationals. He assumed the ODI and Test captaincy the next year.
"If he feels he can do both — perform with the bat and lead in the field — then the captaincy should stay with him. However, the board should clarify to Babar that he is their preferred choice for captain," the former cricketer added.
In the ongoing T20I series, England beat Pakistan in the sixth T20I to level the series on Friday. The series-decider between the two sides will take place at the Gaddafi Stadium in Lahore on Sunday (today) at 07:30 (PM).
